Switch on to Safer Streets – Leave a Light on & Keep the Burglars Out.

Preventing Residential Dwelling Burglaries.

Is Anyone Home?
Always lock your doors; even if out only briefly
Keep valuables in a safe or a lock box when you go out.
Keep your car keys hidden when you go to bed.

Lights – Plug-timers for your lamps – timers for your ceiling lights.

Don’t just leave a light on in the hall. Alternate the room where you leave a light on. Fooling the burglars by lighting up the landing, bathroom, bedroom and the living room.

Vary the times you set the lights to come on using a timer.

Sound Advice – Use a plug-in timer to turn the radio on – make it a talking station rather than music, then it sounds as if people are in the house.

Windows – Remember to check all windows, even small ones and those upstairs.

If you plan to be away, get a trusted neighbour to shut the curtains at night and, importantly, open them in the morning.

Remember to organise the return of the emptied bins to their storage area, or don’t leave them out in the street whilst you are away.
